I have heard so many scary stories about how hard it is to get published – or finish your book. And there are sooo many people out there who want to become writers too and who get rejected many times……….
But I´m still determined to become a writer! I started a looot of “books”, and mostly stopped after a few chapters…..and now I finally think I got two quite decent ideas! yay!! I´m soooo excited! But I still have a long long way to go. And it´s gonna be tough, tough.
Why can´t it simply be like that:
(video made by Jackson Pearce, a writer herself!)
There really was a time I thought it was like that! hahaha, how naive!!

I found that amazingly humorous. If only it was that easy.
Good luck! You can do it!
Like you, it took LOTS of half-formed false starts before I actually found an idea I thought would work. I got the idea, wrote my first draft in three months, and now am working in a ton of changes for my second draft. Stick with it and be disciplined, and I bet you’ll do great!
Oh thank you! That is soooo nice of you!!!
You needed three months for your first draft? That´s cool!
I hope I´ll be able to finish mine in such a short time too.
“Stick with it and be disciplined”, that´s a good advice, really!
I wish you good luck for your novel too!! Let me know when you finish your novel, whenever this might be, but still let me know!

Three months?! Wow, I wish I could finish a first draft that quickly. I’ve taken about six months before and the latest has taken eleven. “Stick with it and be disciplined” is really good advice, I think that might be my problem, not being disciplined enough. Good luck to both of you.
@variousaltitudes: so you´re a writer too? Awesome! Have you already “finished” a book?
Yep, I should really work on the disciplined part too. lol
Thanks, good luck to you too!
Yeah, I’m a writer, too. I’ve finished many novels since I was twelve, but nothing that I’d like anyone to read. I’ve knuckled down in the last year with my latest novel that I’m in the process of polishing off.
lol, thanks for the good luck.
Don’t be too impressed by the three months. It’s taking FOREVER to re-write the second draft!
The first draft was surprisingly coherent, but there was so much I wanted to add (subplots and more character depth, basically) I pretty much just started from the beginning to work everything in. Many elements are similar, but many are new, too. It’s taking a while to merge the ideas because for one new thing to work, so many more things have to change. I’m soooo excited about the shape it’s taking, though, so that helps with the discipline thing. The thing that helped me get so much done the first time around, though (if you’re interested) is the book “No Plot? No Problem” by Chris Baty, the guy who invented NaNoWriMo. The idea that a 50,000 word novel could be written in a month floored me, so I tried to do it myself…two extra months and 36,000 extra words later, I had a 86,000 word first draft.
Best of luck to you both – I wish I had more time to read your posts right now, Katie – (yours, too, variousaltitudes!) – I’ll come back soon to read more!
